In-Studio Dos and Don'ts

Updated: Feb 18, 2023

Voice acting is such an exciting career that can be both fun and rewarding. The great news is that with the advances in technology today, it's easier and more affordable than ever to set up your own home studio.

Here are a few tips to help you get started on your new career ;-)

Dos:

Invest in quality equipment: You don't have to break the bank, but it's important to invest in a quality microphone and audio interface. These are the most important parts of your home studio, and they will greatly affect the quality of your recordings.

Choose a quiet and acoustically modified space: Such as a quiet spot in your home, consider using an acoustic treatment to improve the sound quality of your recordings.

Learn how to use your equipment and software: Take the time to learn how to use your microphone, audio interface, and recording software. This will help you produce the highest-quality recordings and avoid technical issues during production.

Practice your craft: Spend time practicing your voice acting skills and improving your vocal range, articulation, and delivery, not forgetting timed clips.

Don'ts:

Don't use a cheap microphone: A low-quality microphone will produce poor-quality recordings, even if you're a seasoned voice actor.

Don't record in a noisy environment: Avoid recording in a room with lots of background or outside noise, such as air conditioning, fans, traffic or other people talking.

Don't rely on built-in computer microphones: Built-in microphones on most computers are not designed for professional audio recording and will produce poor-quality recordings.

Don't neglect audio editing: After recording, spend quality time editing your recordings to remove any unwanted noise or mistakes. This will greatly improve the quality of your final product.

By following these dos and don'ts, you can set up a professional-quality home studio for voice acting and produce amazing recordings from the comfort of your own home. Remember to have fun and keep practicing - you've got this!
